The open-air shala at Shramalaya, mats laid out beside the lagoon

Ahangama · Sri Lanka

A sanctuary
for the spirit

Yoga, breathwork, sound and movement — held daily beside the water on the island's south coast.

Welcome

Shramalaya

A small shala built for practice, not performance. Open on every side, thatched above, and looking straight out over still water.

Three or four offerings a day through the season — a flow while the light is still soft, a workshop as the heat lifts, and yin or sound as the day closes. Between them the shala stays open for anyone who wants to sit quietly, stretch out, or simply be somewhere calm for a while.

Everyone is welcome, whatever you can or can't do on a mat. Come as you are.

Kids workshops, every week

Each week the shala opens for the children of the village to move, play, breathe and rest. It's free, it's noisy in the best way, and it's one of the reasons this place exists.
